Mary, Did You Know?

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
 --Luke 1:31-33

Last evening I was listening to "A Pentatonix Christmas Special."  I was pleased to discover that the program consisted largely of traditional Christmas music, carols and hymns.  Beautiful presentation.
I paid particular attention to "Mary, Did You Know?" something I have perhaps never really done before.

Mary did you know, Mary did you know, Mary did you know
The blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will live again
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb.
To these lines I think perhaps Mary would have to answer, "No, I did not know that my child would do those things.  But I did know who He is."

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?

"Yes" Mary would reply, "I did specifically know that this Jesus is the Lord of all creation, I do know that He will rule the nations, for Gabriel told me so."  And we know this because Luke tells us so in the passage quoted above!

I love the traditional carols. They are meaningful to me for many reasons.

Vee, likewise though they are harder to find these days. I so need a new turntable. There is a radio station in our area that used to devote the entire month of December to Christmas music. That has gone the way of the passenger pigeon as they fill the airwaves with nonsense.

Christmas cards and Christmas music are the only things I love about Christmas - Odd you should mention the Pentatonix because I just trashed them in a blog post the other day. We have tons and tons and tons of Christmas music in every genre imaginable, tell me what you would like and I can send it to you as MP3s that you can download to your phone computer etc or we could burn you some cd's - tho they probably would not reach you until after Christmas - I'm not sure if we have any blank cd's anymore. We used to make a Christmas music cd every year to give to friends and family - we could copy those or make new ones. I'll email you the mp3 of "Mary Did You Know" by Natalie Cole...

Grace, What a generous offer and I appreciate it very much. However, I don’t really do cd s having for so long relied on my vinyl. But the 33-1/3 turntable is cranking at an erratic 25 or so rpm. I really need to shop for a new turntable-- but I seldom go anywhere.
btw I had no idea who or what pentatonix is/was. Thought maybe some sort of electronic gadget with which I was not familiar. Then I stumbled across the program and quite enjoyed it.
