I learned this morning from Bob Warr that he is still unable to post on his blog. He told me the church he attended yesterday had removed the organ to make room for the drum set and the humungous speaker set-up.
He said, "There is a fine line between a joyful noise and a horrendous racket."

I agree with Bob...tho I don't think it's a fine line - I think it is a big fat line...and humongous speaker set-up irks me too...Put that organ on full tilt boogie and it will reach the heavens just as well as the drum set and speakers - if not better.
Grace, you crack me up. Organ in any style trumps drums and guitars. But obviously not everyone agrees with that assessment.
Yuck. I'm not big on rockin' Jesus....can't we just sing songs like the old days. That said, the organist at our old church was HORRIBLE--it sounded like calliope music when he played and it always gave us the giggles.
Lin, I much prefer the hymns and the tried and true songs. I don't mind a new song with the old gospel message, but some of this, well, rockin' just doesn't cut it for me.
I like to boogie, but not in church.
Was it a philosopher who said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." (I believe it was one of the red necks from the honky tonk bar that said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.")
Could it be that rhythm and music are in the ear of the listener?
