In God We Trust

July 30, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed congressional joint resolution making "In God We Trust" our national motto.
Oh, that we would, in fact, place our trust in God.

I completely agree with your sentiment. I didn't realize that it was so recently adopted as the national motto. Hasn't it been on coins longer than that?

Chuck-- The motto has been used on US coins since 1864, first used on the two-cent piece. Here is a link that gives the history:
