Whazzit?

What is the object? It is apparent that it is a kitchen device. A couple of years ago, one of our parks had an "Antiques Roadshow" type entertainment in which an auctioneer/antique collector of some note in the state served as the expert, offering to "evaluate" items brought in for the event. I took this thing. The kind gentleman told me pretty much what I already knew (see above) and stated that the workmanship was excellent, even venturing a guess of value "at auction."

I could ideate a use or two for the item, but still I do not know its nomenclature, if indeed it has such. Provenance: old loft. Help me.

The item is constructed of "tin," quite sturdy. The can portion is 5.5 inches tall without the lid, and with lid it stands 7.5 inches to the top of the handle. The diameter at the top is 7 inches and at the bottom, 4.5 inches.

Jim, pretty much my thought, too. But it seems Deborah has correctly identified it. It is a steamed pudding mold. Thanks, Deborah!
