June 2, 1953, coronation of Elizabeth II following the first year of her reign. The British are fully engaged in celebrating her "Diamond Jubilee." Good for them. But it is a British thing, not my thing. Many of our ancestors died more than two and a quarter centuries ago to free us from the crown.
If the people of the United Kingdom want to maintain their monarchy, and they do, that is fine with me. But thank God and our patriot ancestors we don't have to be engaged in it!
Elizabeth has to reign but three more years to surpass the longest reign of any woman in history, that of her predecessor, Queen Victoria.
Those Brits do pomp better than anyone else!

My 3 g-grandfather, who was a 15 year old Patriot soldier at the surrender of Cornwallis, would be saying a hearty, "Amen!" right now, as do I.
Shelly, good for your progenitor, and good for you!
