Did you ever just feel like slapping someone? Then you didn't. Then you wish you had. Yet you are really glad you didn't. Mixed bag.
I have heard it said that one advantage of being old is that you can say anything you want to say. Bushwaa. If one can't be nice in his old age, what was the use of all those bitten-tongue experiences over all those previous years?
Maybe the reason so many old people are lonely is simply because they are not fit company.
Very rich famous athletes are paid to wear advertising logos. You pay to wear them? Are you crazy? (Or as someone else once said, "There is nothing wrong with a plain T-shirt.")
Which leads to this: Perhaps your clothing is the only thing your friends read.
This is what happens when one writes down random unfiltered thoughts. But it is not all bad.

My mom is older--retired and living alone. She isn't around people enough to know that what she says or does is annoying to others--nobody there to keep her in check. And she is so used to being alone and doing things her way, that she gets really defensive if you gently try to tell her that her social graces are less than nice lately.
It's a no win. I don't think she has a clue as to how overbearing or opinionated she has become. And you can't tell her because she gets really mad at you if you do. Ugh.
I never understood wearing someone else's name on your butt...or anywhere else. The exception of course is for my husband who has my name tattooed in a heart on his shoulder...
Lin, you may be describing a situation that occurs all too often. Loneliness, turning in upon oneself, may lead to more aloneness and self-centeredness. A vicious circle. You probably would be describing me were I alone, but thank God I have someone to share my space with.
Grace, I wear a lot of plain T-shirts, though I do have a few with "stuff" on them, mostly gifts. I have one with Snoopy dancing on the front, one with Mickey Mouse. I will wear them; but corporate logos? No way.
I could never understand why people paid $$ to wear apparel with advertising on it. A couple of years ago I thought about buying a ball cap or T-shirt with my favorite NASCAR driver on it (he went on to win the championship that year). I couldn't find one that I liked that didn't include his main sponsor's (a beer brewer) on it. No Sale!
Chuck, it's a puzzle to me, though of course I understand it is a win-win for the advertiser-- beyond paid advertising, beyond free advertising, it is advertising for the product, and the producer getting paid for the advertising. I'd do that. If only anyone wanted to buy into it. (Well, I am not (brand name) cola, or beer; or (brand name) clothing, or shoes.
I have a lot of North Country Trail T-shirts by choice. LOVE that emoticon!
Sharkey, I think a NCT shirt is great. I have a Tipton Park 100th anniversary shirt, and an Adirondacks shirt which was a gift.
