Fauna and Flora

Enjoying some of the beauties of nature that surround us. Someone once said, "A squirrel is just a rat that knows how to dress." Be that as it may, I find the squirrels in these surroundings to be fascinating. This particular one was posing on a branch about four feet above our "front" door. Most of them do not spook easily, but will move off a bit when one gets within six feet or so. One of our neighbors who is from Renton, Washington and occupies the same lot here in Texas every winter has befriended these furry little beasts. He feeds them regularly. Some of them will eat from his hand, and one or two of them will walk across his shoulders.
How many flowers have you observed lately that are more flamboyant or more beautiful than the one pictured here? Yes, it is a thistle and since they are considered to be "weeds" most of the ones we see are along the roadsides rather than in yards and gardens. Go figure.

I, too enjoy watching the squirrels...accept when I catch them eating my new flowers..yes, we had to get squirrel repellent...what were they thinking....we give them food, too.

The weed is so beautiful. Reminds me of Christ finding our lives to be of so much worth that He was willing to die for us, while we were mere weeds.

The most brazen squirrels I've ever encountered are on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. I worked there briefly, and used to eat my lunch outside on a bench next to one of the many statues and memorials. Squirrels used to come right up to me and demand that I feed them.

Andrea--Ours used to eat the tulip and glad bulbs. Back when we had perennial flowers, that is.

Bob--He saw us as worthwhile when we were yet unworthy.

Jim--Now those were brazen, indeed.
Once watched a squirrel lure a cat up a tree, then squirrel jumped to a branch on another tree, scampered to the ground and taunted the kitty. Who couldn't figure out how to get down!
