Spring Chores

Sunny and eighty, so we get nuts and mow the yard.   Plant a few seeds.  Then we really go crazy: wash all (14) floor-to-ceiling glass panels in the sunroom.  Inside and out.

We're tired.

But blessed in that we are able to do this stuff. Slowly, we admit, but we get 'er done.

There is something about Spring that just makes you want to tidy up. I get the fever every year. We used to wash every wall in the house....now, not so much. Maybe just the walls that need it and the bathroom walls. Nobody here to make them dirty anymore.

Yea for warm weather!

Enjoy the sparking windows. Having seen those sunroom glass panels, I know what a big day you had. Enjoy the new view!

(That's a cool little yellow vehicle.)

Lin, we find that the amount of cleaning done is inversely proportional to the age of the cleaners. Or something like that.

Vee, thank you for the wish. Since we live out there much of the summer, cleaning was required.

I'm beginning to fear that the amount of cleaning done is inversely proportional to the age (squared) of the cleaners. Perhaps I'm just feeling pessimistic under these gray skies.

Ohhh - a sun room. I am a window washing fool - I can only do the insides (what with being on the third floor and the huge center windows don't open anyway and the side windows slide vertically) and then I have to recruit my husband to do the top six inches because I can't reach). Not having any outdoor space to call my own mowing and sowing is never on my list but I 'Spring' clean all year 'round - I see a little schmutz in an out-of-the-way place and then go on a tear...poor husband!

Chuck, no, no; it is true that the older we get the less energy available to the task. The compensatory factor? I care less, too. May account for the mess some oldsters become. Anyway, what I really meant to say is, I wish I could send you a bucket of this sunshine, reserving the lion's share for myself of course.

Grace, it is frustrating when a window is unreachable. Our sunroom, much glass as there is, is the easiest part of the window chores. We even have a set of clerestory windows which are totally inaccessible, short of hiring someone which I am loath to do. Aaaack!

I'm not an enormous fan of maintenance and upkeep, but I must admit: the first lawn-mowings of spring, the initial caring for the gardens, the washing of exterior windows -- boy, it feels great. Briefly. Until about the first of June. Then the grumbles start.

Jim, wow! You have pretty much defined the arc of my maintenance and upkeep experiences. Except maybe my first of June comes about May 17.

Been 12 years since I sold my rider and have not missed mowing since. :)

KC Bob, interpretation? 1) You have not mowed since, because you moved into a maintenance-included facility, or 2) you have not missed mowing due to the expediency of using a hand mower, or scythe, or 3) I am missing the entire point and being a smart-aleck. ;-)

In the 18 years that I mowed (a few acres) I went through 3 riders (Murray and 2 Snappers). In 2003 I moved to a (free standing) patio home where the hoa took care of my lawn. 5 years ago (after my wife became disabled) I moved to a loft in downtown KC by the river. Interesting transitions but one thing I have never missed is mowing the lawn. ツ

KC Bob, I can but envy you your yard care responsibilities.

The patio home seemed to be the best of both worlds but the loft offers more freedom and accessibility for my wife.
