Indianapolis Motor Speedway
before its opening in 1909.

One hundred five years ago today, the first race was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Over three days of racing, a driver, two mechanics, and two spectators gave their lives for motorsport.

The first "500" was run on May 30, 1911.

Out of auto racing have come innovations that makes our present-day vehicles much safer. Then there's the fun and excitement that comes from such activities.

Chuck, clearly Fisher had an idea that was to infect millions of people. What fascinated me most was the lead-time in construction, for it was started in 1909 and by August there was racing.

It's about being from Indiana. Om cares nothing for motors, but he likes the Indy 500

Sharkey, probably a lot of fans think the same way.
