The bedroom window is open, for it is that time of year. Sleep and fresh air go very nicely together. The crabapple tree is right next to the house, and its branches virtually touch the window. Just before four in the morning, the cardinal in the tree alerts us to the impending dawn. I listen to a couple of riffs, roll over and go back to sleep. The next thing I know, BBBH rolls out her side of the bed, stands in front of the window and shouts, "Shoo! Get out of here! Go away." Well, that worked. The cardinal left his post, and I was now wide awake!
(I did not record the bird. I found this clip on Youtube)

Had to chuckle as I know how those birds can be sometimes. At least the fresh air is coming in~
Is THAT the bird that makes that noise? Clearly, I'm not well studied on my birds. I'm with BBBH -- get 'em outta there.
Hahaha! I love that story!
We had some wacky Cardinal attacking the windows of our cabin this summer when we were on vacation. It started at 4:30 a.m. and he kept going until around 8. I wanted to kill that stupid bird. He saw his reflection on the windows and he'd fly around pecking and attacking the cabin. It was lovely.
We hope that bird is gone this summer.
Shelly, yes, what might be called "birdsong" at other times can be quite disturbing at four ayem.
Jim, yes, cardinal, our State Bird. More pleasing to hear in the afternoon.
Lin, birds do behave in weird ways sometimes. But they are creatures of habit, tending to return to the same place year after year. ;-)
LOL; it reminds me of a story hubby told me this morning about his brother; he has a mocking bird in their backyard who likes to "talk" all night. He's tried everything to get it to leave. Got to love those birds!
have a great day!
betty
The bird a guy might ignore, but never the wife.
betty, whether we enjoy or are annoyed with birdsong depends largely on what we hope to accomplish. Most birds do not sing lullaby.
Chuck, you nailed that one!
Too funny! I can see BBBH taking charge, and I'll bet she went right back to sleep.
We sleep with the windows open all summer and we get up earlier. It's the light that awakens me.
Vee, oh, yes; she took care of that bird, for sure. The next morning at rising time (for bird) I heard a muted "unh, unh."
