Sunflower State

Kansas is known as "The Sunflower State". Here in north-central Kansas is a field of commercial grade sunflowers ripe unto harvest. The combines are busy with the corn, but soon the husbandbandman's attention will turn to these beauties.

Well done.. i notice more following since i last dropped in.. ;D

Sunflowers are definitely a beauty..and so healthy too! We cook using sunflower oil sometimes- the Chinese definitely can't do without our peanut oil and where i come from, we also consume a lot of Palm Oil.

I better stop rattling now.

How come the leaves are so short there?

Silver-- Thank you. Sunflower seed has so many wonderful uses. Peanut oil is a definite "must" for cooking!

VanillaSeven-- They are not at all like the sunflowers that are three or four meters tall, are they? They are bred specially to have short stalks for efficiency of harvesting!

Looks like North Dakota too. Amazing how many sunflower seeds "we" must use for oil, treats, birdfood.

Shark-- "We" certainly do use a lot of sunflowers. The cardinals and grosbeaks surely like them!
