10 S, N E 1?

Houston, Texas
September 20, 1973  (Can you believe it was forty years ago?)

Billie Jean King defeats Bobby Riggs in three straight sets to win the "Battle of the Sexes."

Much nonsense has been written about the match in the intervening years; many arguments have been had, including one I had as recently as this summer.

Ms. King won, fair and square, end of story (period)

She did win that, and I don't think it was fixed at all. Good for her~

I heard the news from an AFRTS short-wave transmitter in the Caribbean. We were living in Ecuador and that's how we got our news.

Shelly, a win is a win. And that was a decisive win.

Chuck, had it not been for shortwave radio, y'all would have been quite isolated, eh?

Sharkey, I'm sure you did. She won fair and square, and if it is because the man did not take the thing seriously enough, well, that is part of the game, and he lost.
