Alamo 174 Years Later

Paying respects to Travis, Bowie, Crockett and the 183 other brave souls who made a stand here for their belief in something greater than the self.

I've been thrice. The first time I had to get over this feeling that I was seeing something out of a storybook. "Ho-lee cow, this thing is real!"

I believe you are right, Jim, that more than one visit is needed to get a real appreciation. Blessings to you, and to Andrea!

I did get to visit the Alamo -- once. I was in San Antonio on business and managed to find time to explore the river walk and visit the Alamo. It was great to see such an historic place as that.

I have had the privilege of enjoying San Antonio twice (once at a conference without my husband, once when he went with me). The Alamo and the missions preserve history very well. I spent a lot of time exploring them. I like the River Walk, but that is a modern tourist trap. Food there was great!

My son was there and couldn't believe how it was in the center of the city and how small it was!

Vee, San Antonio is definitely worth the time spent there.

Lin, true enough. One can walk from the Alamo to anyplace downtown. Well, it might be a long walk to some of the places.
