But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

Vee, I really want to go into this theme but I have been addled by the collywobbles. Perhaps sometime soon.
Sometimes I think God's punishment is to give us what we ask for.

Yes, I do remember that Garth Brooks song. I particularly like it, because it illustrates that we don't always know what is best for us.
