Magdalen, Evangelist
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. --John 20:17,18 (AKJV)
He is risen! The Good News was vouchsafed to Mary Magdalene and Jesus at once commissioned her as the first Christian evangelist.
Easter, the celebration of Christ overcoming death and the grave, is the best day of the year!

Resurrection Sunday!
"He isn't here! HE is risen from the dead, just as He said would happen." -Matthew
"The resurrection tidings are far and away the most astonishing news to ever break across the tired, old face of this earth." -Gardner C. Taylor
" The Easter resurrection is the ultimate reason why failure and crosses need not intimidate us." -Ed Hird
"It is hard to imagine anything less hopeful than the sight of a burial. When the body of Christ was taken down from the cross, wrapped in a clean linen cloth and laid in a new tomb hewn out of the rock, how many who looked on had the faith to hope that inside three days this dead Man would be walking again among men and women, alive forevermore? But so it came to pass. Aaron's rod budded. The leafless tree on which the Savior died sprang into bloom. What had been stark death before became life at the touch of God, and the gallows became the gate to everlasting life.
"One thing the resurrection teaches us is that we must not trust appearances. The leafless tree says by its appearance that there will be no second spring. The body in Joseph's new tomb appears to signify the end of everything for Christ and His disciples. The limp form of a newly-dead believer suggests everlasting defeat. Yet how wrong are all these appearances. The tree will bloom again. Christ arose the third day according to the Scriptures, and the Christian will rise at the shout of the Lord and the voice of the archangel.
"Faith can afford to accept the appearance of defeat, knowing the true believer cannot be defeated finally. 'Because I live, you also will live.' That is the message of Easter. What a blessed message for the whole world if men would only believe it." -Aiden Wilson Tozer

Saving Jesus #T
We have come through what is known in the church as Passion Week. We have observed the adulation of the crowds in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. We have seen the Master with his select twelve in the Upper Room at the Feast of Passover. We have watched Jesus agonize in prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane while his followers were unable to stay awake "even an hour." We have seen the tragic betrayal of the Christ by one of his own select, the taking of this innocent man to be tried and falsely convicted and sentenced to die on the cross. We have watched as a favored disciple, "Rocky," as it were, denied that he even knew this fellow.
We have watched the agonizingly slow dragging of the cross through the streets of Jerusalem, and finally collapsing, Jesus yields the cross to another to bear in his stead. But the denouement, the nailing to the cross and the plunge of the post into the hole prepared for it; the tearing and ripping of the flesh of his hands; the crown of thorns placed on his head; the promise of paradise to the thief who dying beside him believes on Jesus as Savior; his cries, "My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" And finally, "It is finished!" We see this even as his friends and his mother before the cross witness this unbelievably cruel death in which this man is literally suffocated as he is raised up on the cross. The Temple curtain tears in two. We see the soldier piercing his side and his removal from the cross. We see him taken and entombed in a burial chamber belonging to Joseph of Arimathaea; the great stone slamming the entrance shut; the Roman guard placed on the burial site.
But now! But now on this Sunday morning, this Easter Sunday morning, we celebrate the completion of our salvation through the death and resurrection, yes, resurrection of this Man Jesus who is the Christ, the Son of the Living God!
Is it any wonder that this day unrecognized by any government fiat is nevertheless my favorite Holiday of the Year?

Celebration of Emptiness #T
The quality of emptiness carries with it a negative connotation. It is characteristic of something now nothing, something not there.
An empty cereal box in the morning conveys disappointment. An empty coffee cup suggests the need for a refill. An empty purse is devastating. The feeling of emptiness that overwhelms one when a loved one departs or even when an exciting adventure has ended further suggests that emptiness leaves much to be desired.
Yet today we celebrate emptiness. We rejoice in the emptiness of the sepulchre in which Jesus was entombed following his death on the cross. It is a celebration because his absence from the tomb signals the possibility for us that we might be emptied of our guilt. For a vessel to be cleaned it is first imperative that it be emptied. We are emptied out, our sins, our guilt. We are emptied of self so that we might be cleansed by the Holy Spirit, made fit to abide with our Risen Savior!
Happy Emptiness! And may you have a Happy Easter in Jesus, our Risen Lord!
