Zech. 9:9: Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
We do a large Passion Play at our church, and last night was the first performance of it for this year. I was in the Palm Sunday scene, and it was so meaningful to me. Thank you for sharing this~
Shelly, you are blessed to be a participant. We saw a musical pageant "The Borrowed Tomb" at church this morning. 42-voice choir. Tears were flowing-- mine. We simply cannot fully grasp what Jesus did and does for us.
I love Palm Sunday, but most churches don't seem to pay much attention to it any more. I would have loved being at either of the ones mentioned in the comments above.
Sharkbytes is right. Many churches have forgotten how to celebrate this sacred season.
Sunday at our church, the little people (pre-school through probably third grade) marched through our sanctuary waving palm branches. Entertaining! I hope that at some point they learned something about what they were doing. The sermon started with the appropriate Scripture but ended with a fundraiser promotion for the church remodel. Apparently it is life or death important that the church transform a large space into a coffee bar with appropriate seating and that our second auditorium is remodeled by building a performance stage, installing large projection screens (plural), stage lighting, and state of the art sound equipment. (Likely an afterthought will get a fog machine in there, also.)
Making coffee at home is such a pain and I can't wait for the fund-raiser to pay for all of the hearing aids the (now) young people will need when they are in their fifties. (Oh, I won't be around by then.) I hope the several million dollar price tag means that some people actually come to know Christ and it's not all about entertainment.
Couldn't respond to your blog on Palm Sunday - had to find forgiveness for anger first. And, yes, I am much calmer now (and I want to be Catholic).
Vee, nothing to do with Palm Sunday, but your interesting story reminded me of a visit to a very large and prominent metropolitan church many years ago. Purpose of the visit: to see the christening of a granddaughter. Many other visitors present as there were several kids getting the "treatment" that day. Preacher's sermon was a severe ripping and scolding of his flock for failure to support the financial needs adequately. What??

Joan, the preacher read Mark 11:1-11 and based his sermon on it!

Hmmm, Vanilla. Makes one wonder about priorities.
