Blah

Just read an article about blockchain.  It was full of cryptography, time stamp, hash pointer, distributed ledger, Byzantine fault tolerance, and the like.

Other than a buzzing head, I know precisely what I knew before I read the article.

Have a wonderful 21st century day!

  1. I'm a software developer and blockchain mystifies me, too. Reminds me of sitting in my 400-level math classes in college. Lots of "what the?" moments.

  2. Jim, our world today: compartmentalized expertise. I had lots of "what the?" moments in certain math classes.

  3. Knowledge has grown so that one person can know a lot about a very limited subject. Should the trend continue, on day a scholar may know absolutely everything about nothing. That's my opinion your mileage may vary.

  4. Of course I had to look up blockchain, I was reading along when I fell asleep...

  5. Chuck, I expressed my view on this in a blogpost five years ago when I wrote: "I have long believed that academia narrows fields of expertise to a fine point, and here is an excellent illustration of that fact. Someday, some university is going to narrow a study down to a vanishing-point, and the recipients of the degree offered will know everything about nothing!"

Grace, I just knew that you would take the reference as a research assignment! Glad you got in a little nap.

  6. Hmmm. Many of those words have not made it into my personal mental dictionary. However, I did learn a new plant today.

  7. Sharkey, new plant? piques my curiosity. Do tell.

  8. Questioned, "Huh?" Then went on a hunt. The question remains the same.

  9. Vee, truth: the more I read the less enlightened I felt.
