Look at you! I did not know that was why Daddy was working on a car belonging to "someone else" but do remember how much overhearing conversations about not having money to pay the surgeon and the hospital made me feel - like maybe they should not have done the surgery.

If I recall correctly, the surgeon's fee was $100. (Dad often told about the surgeon who did his appendectomy without charge - because Dad was a minister - but the surgeon's assistant charged $100 for my surgery.) I have no idea about the hospital charges, however, I think just the surgeon's fee was roughly equivalent to one month's salary for Dad.

The folks always managed to take care of us. I did not always know how.
Veehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12222653231278680963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3535543883262225735.post-79239242104810968742017-11-19T14:13:33.589-05:002017-11-19T14:13:33.589-05:00Sharkey, I have to sort of be in awe of them, for ...Sharkey, I have to sort of be in awe of them, for I always seems to have at least one piece left over.vanillahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11978025976591113499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3535543883262225735.post-16330264873422780852017-11-19T08:04:49.719-05:002017-11-19T08:04:49.719-05:00I'm not an engine monkey... but I always respe...I'm not an engine monkey... but I always respect those who can take 'em apart and put 'em back together.Sharkbyteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10139935335209860357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3535543883262225735.post-68010083452657895632017-11-17T11:07:03.215-05:002017-11-17T11:07:03.215-05:00FWIW, it's about a 30 min drive to Hastings Mf...FWIW, it's about a 30 min drive to Hastings Mfg.
